The Central Valley is the geographical center of California, known as the “heartland” of the state. Fresno County is the jewel of the Valley, rich in history, culture and charm. Here you will find access to big city amenities, coupled with small town ease.
As the fifth largest city in California, the city of Fresno has a population of over 500,000 residents. The region is known for great year-round weather, with over 300 days of sunshine a year. It’s surrounded by views of awe-inspiring mountain and foothill scenery and offers access to many majestic lakes and rivers. Fresno is home to sophisticated parks, trails and gardens, unique neighborhoods and numerous cultural arts centers. There’s a wide variety of dining, shopping and attractions, with three national parks (Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia) right in Fresno’s backyard. And for the traveler at heart, Fresno is within an hour’s drive to many mountain and lake resorts, and a three-or four-hour drive to both Los Angeles and San Francisco. In Fresno you reap all of the niceties of a big city, with a cost of living that’s affordable.
Fresno is California’s most productive agricultural region, and is the “Agricultural Capital of the World”. On any given day you can stop at one of the many farm stands throughout the area for any variety of vegetables, fruits and nuts. As one of the country’s largest producer of grapes, the Valley is also home to many wineries, many of which offer tours, tastings and special events.
Fresno is also home to award-winning public schools, several junior colleges and two universities. California State University, Fresno is one of 23 campuses in the California State University system and has more than 24,000 students. The campus is home to a student-ran winery, farm, water technology incubator, and an innovation and entrepreneurship center. The campus is also home to the SaveMart Center, a multi-purpose arena hosting sporting events and concerts.
For sports fans, the Valley is home to the Fresno Grizzles, the Triple-A affiliate of the 2017 World Series Champion Huston Astros. And if you like college sports, the teams at Fresno State have earned one of the most loyal followings of any college in the country. In fact, Oakland Raiders star quarterback Derek Carr is a Fresno State Bulldog football alum.
With over 70 distinct ethnic groups, Fresno is considered one of the largest, fastest growing and most diverse areas in California. Its abundant options makes Fresno the perfect home for working professionals, young families or even retirees.
